Week 4 – The Paranoid Goat

Thistle The paranoid goat  Storyboard script

Scene one

OPEN.   Inside of farmyard pen – DAY

1.     Screen fades into a dosing Thistle, standing in a traditional wooden farmyard pen.                      Thistle slowly opens her eyes and mindlessly choose on her mouth and walks drowsily to her water trough.

2.     Close-up side view of Thistle drinking from her trough with her eyes closed.

3.     Close-up looking up at Thistle face Thistle opens her eyes and looks down at camera/ into the water, she stares and then her eyes open wide in shock.

4.     Camera view Close-up looking from behind Thistle’s head:  view of Thistle’s   distorted reflection in the water, as the water begins to settle we see and hear Thistle scream.

5.     Camera pans out to side view to show pen and Thistle: Thistle still screaming backs away bumping into the back of the pen.

6.     Camera zoom’s out more to show pen gate: Thistle  jumps out of pen eyes wide in shock.

7.     Camera view of farm and distant fields: Thistle galloping into the distance.

scene two

Set in a large Hayfield on a slight hill, that’s recently been cut, with big round hay bales decorating the countryside.

1.      Camera zoom in on Thistle mouth chewing hay from a hay bale.

2.     Camera zooms out from Thistle mouth to show her standing next to a big Round hay bail to her left and a large puddle a few metres away to her right.

3.     Thistle walks over to a puddle to have a drink.

4.     Thistle suddenly stops and wonders about the paddle

5.      Cameras zoom in on her face- expression of confusion and frowning.

6.      Camera jumps to a zoom in on puddle from side view, can still see a blurred view of countryside in the back ground, with a blue cloudy sky reflected in the puddle.

7.       Wide eyed O shaped mouth with a look of trepidation, she extends her neck slowly, her head coming into frame over the puddle.

8.     She sees another goat, her reflection looking back at her, she jumping back in shock, affronted.

9.     Wide shot of her jumping onto the hay bale and bleating at the puddle, indignantly.

10.   Camera zooms to side view of Thistle losing balance, as the hay bale slowly rolls down a small incline in the field, towards the puddle.

11.  Thistle slips off the back of the hay bale out of frame, which carries on without her also going out of frame.

12.  Zooming on her dead frozen with legs splayed in the air.

13.  Zoomed in on her going into sitting position like a human on the floor, facing the camera. She looks stunned, then looks in the direction of the hay bale and immediately grins in surprise bleating a bit.

14.   Shot from behind Thistle’s head of the hay bale now covering the puddle entirely.

15.  Slightly wider shot looking strait on the hay bale on the puddle, Thistle appears from behind, checking around the bale for any sign of the other goat.

16.  Thistle jumps up on the bale in triumph and bleats in delight, taking a heroic pose.

I found this storyboard a challenge to bring together, but feel I have done a good job and it will hopefully translate into an animatic nicely.
