Week 8 – Return to the Moon

Finalising my Mary Blair-inspired Princess moon character,  rather than doing her just in the blue-y grey colours I decided to take inspiration from some of her princess illustrations where she uses some nice pink tones. I think this character concept works well, also looking at movement within the sketches.

Final layout design of the Moon Princess
I have made her a lot smaller and fatter, trying to make her look more childlike as in my other drawings she looks too old for the character.

Looking at Leo Blair's background art of castles, the night sky and some of the characters she illustrated in Fantasia for style reference.

Background of the Ocean Palace. I feel this came out quite well, as it's quite moody and I like the reflection, I attempted to keep to Mary Blair's style, which I think I did okay in this.

My first attempt at the water dancers, I think this was too realistic so I had a go at doing a quick sketch with a more stylised human form. I think it's a lot more bold and illustrates the feeling of more movement better.
